About us
Gravity Calls Canopy Piloting Team represents Australia at the 2009 World Cup in South Africa.
Our swooping team, Ronnie Perry and Kieran Rundle, recently arrived home from South Africa after representing Australia at the World Cup in Canopy Piloting.
Canopy Piloting, otherwise known as swooping, is an extremely fast, ground level flying of high performance parachutes which creates a huge spectator thrilling sport. The competitions are held over swoop ponds specifically built for these events. Speeds of over 127km/h are reached at ground level and distances of over 181m were reached during the competition with the starting point being only 5ft from the ground! With huge crowds turning up to see all the action, they were entertained with the thrills and spills and witnessed World Records being broken again this year.
Ronnie and Kieran were mixing it up with the best in the world. Unfortunately they never made it into the top placings this year, but they intend to keep training hard together to make it back in the Aussie team to represent their country yet again. The more support we can get for these guys, the better they'll do next time.
For more info about swooping, check out Canopy Piloting on the "what we do page".
B.A.S.E JUMPING
BASE Jumping is the art of jumping offer any fixed object with a specially designed parachute system. Either it be a Building, Antenna, Span (bridge) or Earth (cliffs), the thrill and excitement keeps wanting you to go back and do it again. This high adrenaline sport is growing each and every year and although illegal in some parts of the world, the rest of the world has not only accepted this sport but also encourages it! The thrill of watching someone jump from the roof of a building is scary enough for some people so that is why we off our DVD's so the general public can see first hand what we do. Please don't try this unless you have received speciality training from an experienced instructor. Base jumping is one of our favourite past times :).
Raising Public Awareness
One of our goals here at Gravity Calls is to help promote the sport of BASE jumping. By offering advice to people who wish to find out more about the sport, what's the best way to learn and what kind of experience you should have before you start. We also offer knowledge on Skydiving and where the best places are to go for your first jump. All you need to do is contact us with your enquiry, and we can send you in the right direction. By raising public awareness on the sport of BASE jumping, hopefully decreases the ignorance of most peoples perception and increases a greater understanding of why anyone would want to jump off a fixed object. All extreme sports, and most everyday activities, have a "high risk" about them. But as we learn more about these risks, we have seemed to accept these other sports and activities into our lives. So if we can do the same for BASE jumping, then our mission is accomplished. Gravity Calls has teams of BASE jumpers and Skydiving Instructors who travel to different parts of the world attending legally organised BASE events and to many countries that have legal BASE jumping sites. We also compete at National and International level in Skydiving competitions.
Some of our Team:
Kieran Rundle - The Director of Gravity Calls. Has over 5000 Skydives, Instructor B (Aust.) and has other International Instructor ratings. Having over 350 BASE jumps, he has travelled the world attending BASE events and working as a Skydiving Instructor and videographer. With experience of competing at National and International level in skydiving, he has taken over 3000 people for their very first skydive. He also does part time rigging work.
Michael Hughes (Max) - Max is our Advanced Rigger and works full time on making Block Buster Movies and television shows around the world. Max is also an Instructor A (highest possible), started jumping in 1997, has in excess of 5000 skydives and 200 BASE jumps. Having this experience, he really knows his way around the filming industry and stunt co-ordination.
Jeremy Divan (Red Eye) - Red Eye is our American link and our No. 1 BASE Instructor taking care of all our courses. He attends many of the BASE events in the USA, so knows how these things operate. With 650 BASE jumps, 4000 + skydives and being a parachute rigger, we refer to him for all gear our maintenance.
Ronnie Perry - Ronnie is a member of our Canopy Piloting team that just arrived home from representing Australia at the World Cup. He runs canopy coaching clinics for beginners wanting to learn more about their parachute, or for the experienced skydivers wanting to get more out of their swoop to compete at national level.
